What is the name of your state? Virginia
My daughter is a high school senior finishing up her recruiting process for college basketball.
I just found out recently that someone in the area (claiming to be a parent of a player) is emailing college coaches and stating false information about her. For example, a picture was sent of my daughter stating she was drinking and doing drugs at a party. When in fact, it's a picture of the family attending my niece's wedding (with my wife's picture cut out) and a beer bottle on the table, that belonged to my wife. The message also goes on to state that she is a habitual drug user, even encouraging her teammates to participate. Totally, totally false. Basically this person is doing everything possible to discourage a college coach to offer my daughter an athletic scholarhip of any kind.
We are aware of 2 colleges/universities who have received similar messages. We have been able to obtain a copy of one of the messages and an ip address.
Is there any legal course we can pursue to make sure this individual ceases from doing this type of activity? One of the college coaches said "I hope that you find this guy and sue his butt for damages. Re-reading this stuff makes my stomach sick...is this what high school athletics are about? Crazy."
We have an idea of who is doing this but no direct proof besides the email and ip address.
Thanks for your response.
