What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

Okay, I hired a contractor and paid him. What if my contractor, who is now in JAIL, did not pay a company HE contracted to do work on my house. Can the company that had a contract with him, not me, put a lien on my house? Is that legal? What should I do if it is?
