Last night, I was in Wayne National Forest in Ohio at a party with some new people. I'm only 17 years old, and no one at the party was of age. The cops showed up, and they asked if anyone had anything on them they KNOW they shouldn't have. I was the first to stand up, and admitted to having marijuana in my pocket. They confiscated the small amount that I had, I'm guessing it wasn't even a gram, and I was charged with underage consumption and possession of marijuana. I was arrested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, but I live in West Virginia. Am I looking forward to probation? Should I get a public defender? This is the only thing on my juvenile record, and I'll be 18 in less than 5 months.

public defender: you don't just get to get one. You must qualify for one. If you don't qualify for one, time to get out the piggy bank. You might be selling the truck just so you can afford to pay a lawyer.

you may not be able to get probation, if that is what you get, in another state (other than Ohio). If s deferment or unsupervised probation is a possibility, then being out of state might be possible. It is up to the court.

that is just one reason you need an attorney.
