I'm not posting this in the correct area. I don't think there is an area for this situation. It involves personal property. In this case a cellphone. I purchased it for a friend (under my name) and she used it for quite some time. She did not pay the bills although we had a VERBAL agreement that she would. I suspended the service while I was attempting to collect the monies and the phone. I was not able to and 3 months later is was automatically reconnected. By the time I regained posession of the phone the bills (of what I paid and what is still unpaid) is over $1200! Can I go to small claims court and legally sue her for the amount? Is a verbal agreement enough to stand up in a court? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

My response:

Yes, and yes. Telephone numbers are a unique form of proof. Those numbers are connected to someone that knows your friend, and would not know you. File your Small Claims lawsuit, have it personally served on the Defendant, and on your court date, bring your telephone bills to court with you.
