HELP! left with one month left
Missouri
okay, we had one month left on our rent and when my husband got paid it was not enough to cover rent and everything else, and our savings was gone. our landlord is not very cooperative and it was on a friday night (rent was due the following monday)so we decided to move out to my parents house to live for a couple of months rent free (before we have to move to arkansas). i cleaned the house from top to bottom and felt that we were doing them a "favor" by leaving and not waiting to be evicted. they have sent us a bill for over $1200. 400 is the last month rent and the rest is cleaning. after the 400 for the deposit they say we owe them 800 including the rent. we cannot afford that. i told them i may be able to pay the last remaining month, but was not sure. even if i do pay that, she says i will still have to pay for the stuff over the deposit. i videotaped the house so i can prove it wasn't trashed. what can they legally do? i thought a deposit covered crap like that. Thanks
they had it in writing that we were not resigning so they could have put it on the market, i guess.
