Hi. I am a father of twins, who I love with all my heart. They're at the age of 10, and have been staying with their mom fully since the sixth month since they've been conceived since she decided to leave with her new boyfriend at the time. I've been in both my kids lives supporting them not only financially but also have been there physically and emotionally. I've always been there for them whenever needed or called upon. The mother and I were never married but recently the mother has decided to take me to court for reasons I believe to be more for her own benefit then my children's. She and her husband have recently decided to take me to court for child support because recently they have both lost their jobs, I have two children already living with me and she wants me to pay more than I can afford with the income that I earn. In addistion they decided to move to California to pursue her singing carreer against my objections for the children to be closer to me. Since moving there I've tried my hardest visiting them when i can when they're visiting in town. During the summer of my children visiting me in Illinois the mother decided to let my kids visit her husband's family first before visiting me. I only got to see my kids for 2 weeks during the 3 month summer vacation when they were staying with her husband's side and her side of the family.It seem that her new husand and his familly come first before me, the father. I was cival and mature for my kids. I am being pushed completely out the picture slowly but called upon when their are in need financially inclined and helpless themselves. Making me seem like "the bad guy" for not trying to be around or helping my kids out when I wanted to do so. Pretty much you can say I was never good enough or anything I ever tried to do was not also. Only when they're in this position they ask for my assistance without giving me the rights of a father to see or even talk to my kids. Everytime I tried to contact the mother of my kids I would get avoided or the contact would not be successful or returned. As a father I want to know how I can get help out of this situation and recieve the rights I deserve as a father. What can I do to be able to obtain custody and/or joint custody, or even to see my kids more often then I can? Will I even be able to try to fight for custody of my kids even though they live with their mother basically their whole lives? What if I dont have any proof or evidence of being there for my kids besides my words and my kids words? Will it be a fair fight or does she have a better chance?What is the name of your state?
