One of my friends owe 50k to multiple creditors. He does not have anything. He does not want to file bankruptcy. He is thinking about hiding without a trace or going abroad for the moment, because he found there are many Britons do this way to avoid debt collector.
What will happen to him anyway? Will a criminal complaint against him if he does disappear?

If you want to live on the run, that is up to you. It's a hard life and no fun. Whether anyone arrests you depends on if you have committed any crimes.

If your friend moves to France, they havea 5 year "debt forgiveness" plan where by joining the military for 5 years, they pay ALL debts in the country they are from. Your friend should look into that!

First of all, it's nearly impossible to acutally HIDE these days. Virtually everything you do leaves a trace that can be followed by determined creditors and debt collectors. Unless you want to live completely unhooked from everything and live in a cave out in Idaho somewhere, you can't really hide. The debts won't go away anyway.. they'll be waiting for him whenever he returns even if he does run away overseas.

Why doesn't he want to file bankrutpcy ?? That's the only LEGAL and final (for most debts) way out of his debts.
