What is the name of your state? My Name is Daniel Chapman and I'm from Nova Scotia Canada.
My Problem is this. When I was 17, my girlfriend and I had a baby. To help support our new family, I quit school and worked full-time. Knowing that life would be hard with-out a diploma, I decided to take the last credit I needed to graduate through correspondence. After about a year I finished the course and went to my high school to write the exam. After the exam was over and done with (and me feeling I was now a high school graduate), the school told me that months ago the school added another credit that would be mandatory for all potentials graduates (Canadian History).
In the past when the school board made changes to course needed or the amount of credits needed to graduate, they only applied to the new year high school student so it didn't screw up any who had already set the schedules. I was upset to say the least knowing that if I would have been 2 months earlier I would have had my diploma. So I decided to write letters to MP, MLA and the Minister of Education in my province to tell them about how unfair this was. After some time I received letters pretty much saying that I was out of luck.
At the beginning of this year, a new Minister of education of appointed so I decided to tell her my story to see if she could help me. And she did. Turns out that the new credit did not apply to me since I wrote the exam in August and only apply to those student as of September of '03. A little while later I received a call from my old High School telling me that They'll have my diploma ready in June.
I was really excited and happy. Sure I could have taken the extra course through correspondence again or gone and taken my GED's but this was a matter of principal. So in the long run, I'm a 2003 and graduate who was told he wasn't until 2007. Thats 4 years wasted. $ years that I could have applied to better jobs, gone to college or even not felt like a loser. Is there any thing I can do legally against the school for wasting 4 years of my life and holding me back???
PS. I know that this is for US law only but any help would be great
