What is the name of your state? NY

Last week I ran into a parent from my son's last year team. We play AAA youth hockey. After speaking to this parent several things came into question.

Our team rostered this kid for last years team. He came from a B level organization. His parents were given the lecture of what to expect and what is expected.

Normal hockey dues run $2500.00 for the year, with traveling expenses your looking at about $12,000 to $14,000 for the year. During the season we will fund raise and look for donations to keep costs down. But with extra ice and tournments we usually run over budget and a finally payment on top of the $2500.00 of around $600-$800, is due at the end of season.

During the season the parents of this child became agitated with several things, and were very unhappy. At the end of the season they refused to pay the 740.00 of extras. When this happens the organization will withhold your release. Any child jumping from one organization to another must have a release to play.

So after hearing the parent rant and rave, he then told me his child is not playing hockey anymore because he refused to make payment, and the organization refused to give the release form.

My question is this... Is it illegal to deny service or release a person because of past monies owed? Nothing in USA Hockey or our payment agreement states the player's release will be withheld because of no payment.

Sounds like you're that parent. Regardless, let me answer your question with a question.

When a college student owes their college tuition at the end of the four years, does the college have a right to withhold the Diploma and transcripts until payment is made?

LOL hardly. I pay my dues, and carry another child on the team who's parents cannot afford it. If not for me this child would not be scouted at 13 years old for the OHL. Nobody pays attention to the B level retards.

Anyways here is one for you. So you go to health club A and you decide to not pay, and join the health club B across the street. Should health club B deny you a membership or Health club A withhold you from future memberships with other unassociated health club because you failed to pay? I think not. Which is why it got my wheels turning.

Which is the reason IAAL for this question. Because of the parents outright refusal to pay, and assh#ole mentality the child is missing out on a future.

Your analogy is wrong. The two health clubs are separate businesses, having no relationship to each other. Club B is free to do business with any person they choose, including a deadbeat.

However, in your scenario, the different teams within the league have a "relationship", whereby, at least, they have agreed with each other to require and obtain "releases" from another team before they accept a child onto a new team.

In my analogy, the "Graduate School" is not required to accept a new enrollee until they receive proof of graduation; e.g., the diploma and transcripts.

So basically your held hostage until the debt is paid. Which in turn would be like the old days, when they takes your kids for payments, or throw you as@ in jail until the debt is paid.

No, you're not being held hostage. You have the choice of playing or not playing. If you want to play in that league, you pay. If you want to go to another league in some other town, then you play without paying the old league. Or, you stop playing hockey altogether, and start playing Rugby.

You don't play for free. If there's an bonifide, outstanding debt, then the kid doesn't play where he's not welcome. No one is forcing the kid to do, or not do, anything. The parents don't have to pay, and the league doesn't have to allow the kid to play on their team. It's just that simple.

If you don't share the gasoline, you don't ride in my car. You take the bus.

Gee your kids must play B level..... If your playing for fun and dont want to commit, why play?
No, actually. I also have a brother in the NHL, I doubt one of your "retards" are there.

Calling kids retards explains exactly what kind of parent you are. Unless your kid is a hockeypro and plays for a living, you need to chill the f down. It's not life or death, IT'S KIDS PLAYING SPORTS FOR FUN!!!

LOL first off, I was speaking about the parents when I say hockey retards. These would be the persons that keep their child in a lower level due to their own selfish reason, money, travel time, too much commitment blah blah blah. And I seriously doubt you have a brother in the NHL. Please name him, because I know MANY. My sons is trained by several of them. From our rink alone 11 NHLers, 6 OHL, 12 AHL players came from.

And to add, my son right now is being scouted too. See you just dont jump onto the NHL circuit. Sidney Crosby was scouted at 13 years old. These children are watched, paid attention to for years. Not days. If not running the AAA circuit your child would never be seen. They dont just knock on your door one say and say, "Hey I heard you play hockey, we are going to draft you".

And more info--- It's all in who you know. Parents must be seen at rinks, make connections. Pay the extra for powerskating, training, clinics.

You wanna play for fun, go to the B level. You wanna win, excel, you play AAA. Scholarships, US Teams, Prep schools, its all a resume. My point with this whole thread is my concern for a child who comes from a family of 5. He has pure talent, with the lack of income he could be looking forward to a scholarship to prep or college. But the parents mentality has ruined this child. I really did not want to pay his damn dues, but it looks like it pointing that way.

Because you know everything about me, do you??
He's been in the NHL for years (from San Jose to NY & Florida) and his name is none of your business, what would his name prove? I could go online and just pick one, if I was lying! I'm not naming him, so you can pretend you "know" someone in the league.

And BTW, you mentioned NOTHING about the parents being retards, your comment about retards was nothing but referred to the kids, so be more careful in your comments.

LOL  if you have the time I will send you over 100 photos of NHL'ers in our home rink, the phone number is very visable with 30 differant NHL's, all skating with my son only. I remember a poster Newguy who dared me of course I shut him up real quick. Gee I wonder what happened to him? hhahahha If your so called brother played in NY I KNOW HIM. I have VIP seating in all three rinks in NY. All I have to do is make a phone call****************************..

And the relevence to this thread would be ???????

If you are so gracious and the money involved is only $740, pay it for them and let the kid play. This entire thread does nothing more than make you look like a braggart. If you have so much money at your disposal call a dozen attorneys give them a couple bucks each and get their opinions.

Nobody pays attention to the B level retards.
This quote does not reference the parents. The inference is towards the children.

Bottom line here is if you do not follow the rules imposed by the league, you don't play.

BTW: if you have enough money, just about any pro player will pose for a pic with your kid.
