What does the following mean to me, as the contractor, please?

"Client name" and "Me (the contractor)" shall hold harmless and indemnify the other party against any claim or action for loss, damage, costs and expenses, including legal fees filed against them.

Hold harmless means you're not going to pass the blame on them.
Indemnify is that you are going to exert effort to keep them from having blame placed on them.

Does this mean in this case (by the way it is worded) that neither of us will place the blame on each other?? I guess I'm trying to understand the "the other other party clause"... does this mean in both directions? Thanks

Yes, it means neither of you will place the blame on the other...or allow an outside party to place the blame on the other for something that you do. An example would be that if one of your employees or subcontractors gets hurt on the job, you will be responsible, not the homeowner...and if the homeowner gets sued by one of your employees or subcontractors, that the homeowner can turn around and sue you.
