I work for a corportation that pays for holidays but my husbands company does not. Is holiday pay an elective choice for companies or is it a legal obligation? Not all of them but like thanksgiving or christmas?

It is entirely optional.

No private employer is required to give any paid holidays whatsoever, not even Thanksgiving or Christmas.

There is no statutory obligation for a private employer to provide Holiday pay.
