hi-
i own a house in minnesota which i formerly shared with my former fiance. i am the sole owner of the property. he paid rent sporadically, though there was no formal lease. he also helped me paint and strip wallpaper while we were in the relationship.

the relationship ended, and i had to evict him because he refused to move out. i am putting the house on the market soon. now he is planning to sue me to collect money for painting interior walls and he also feels he is entitled to 50% of the profit on the sale of the home. the painting was something we did together, and there was never talk of payment.

does he have any right to money for painting or is he entitled to any profit i make on the sale of the home? he is claiming that he helped increase the value of the home due to his small repairs, and therefore he is entitled to some money.

thanks,
momck

Boy are you glad you almost got rid of that LOSER!!!!

Look he is a low life scumbag, but you might as well think of offering him a few bucks to shut him up.

Its your home, and your profit....unless you people were together for a long ....long time....he has no case.

If the law is anything close to Canadas, if you were together longer than 6 months he may have a legal case for 1/2 of everything you own. It's called common law and is marriage equivalent in Canada. wishing you the best!

As usual, dj doesn't know about a world outside of NY.

I don't know about Minnesota, but in California your former fiance is right. He may also be able to sue you for support.
