Homeowner won't pay and wants to sell

What is the name of your state? WA

I was hired to do some work for a guy getting his house ready to sell. After I completed the majority if the work, he decided it wasn't happening quick enough and hired someone else to finish.

Other than small claims court, how can I get him to pay? Can I put a lein on his property without a judgement?

**A: please define "some work". And you cannot put a lien on his property without a judgement.
