Own our own home in housing development. have 6 yr old siberian husky (all shots/inside dog). she slipped her collar while out for bathroom break. wandered into neighbor's yard. their dog disturbed, so they proceeded to let it in. somehow our dog went inside too. no exact details on who jumped who, but dog got in a tussle with 16 yr old cat. paid fine for loose dog and a kennel fee and been told to expect another $125 fee, not quite sure why. been informed that we will be responsible for vet fees (understandable).

Our dogs very rarely get loose and have never been known to be aggressive. they are around children often and are very gentle. comments were made by the retrieving police officer and the vet assistant what a nice dog she is. we can get names of individuals if needed.

questions:
1. can they force us to put our dog down?
2. will our homeowners insurance cover this?
3. can they sue us for mental anguish or anything else?
4. how far are they allowed to drag out vet expenses? i understand that the cat was a family pet, and we feel very bad about what has happened, but when is enough enough?
