What is the name of your state? CA

We had a horse in training (yes, w/o a contract). Due to our own business extreme expenses we ended up owing him money. We were trying to sell the horse actively (as was he, or so he said). We decided jointly to add his name to the papers. We signed the horses registration papers to add him as a legal owner, with our names andhis name, not one or the other but all of us as owners had to agree. We did this to help him recoop some of the his money he had put out showing and training her, etc. He has continued to show this horse and earn some money on her. We are now in a position to pay what we owed him at the time of changing her papers. I have contacted the organization that took off our name and added his to dispute this, etc. ? As soon as I get the offical paperswork from AQHA am making an appointment with a business lawyer to get some help. We've contacted him but he states we can't afford her now" SHe's good but has not earned that much money, most likely less than $1000.00. Any ideas or help is appreciated.

What advice or help are you looking for? If you are listed as him AND her on the ownership papers, then either of you is entitled to show the horse, and the only way to get his name off of the title is to essentially purchase his share of the horse. There is no requirement that he sell his share for the amount originally owed, and there is no requirement that he sell to you at all. Maybe you should just try and sit down with him and try and work something out -- a lawyer is going to be unlikely to help you, unless there is a written contract or some other details that you've left out somewhere.

Advice I'm looking for is the following: Without a contract and being that the papers on this mare were mine or my husband, he somehow got his name on and ours off. Quarter horse association is looking into to it regarding fraud; for now he can't do anything with her in AQHA circles, but the open world is another story. We'd like her back, that's all...he's not doing anything with her as we are currenlty showing another mare and nobody has seen him or heard from him. Just wondered if anyone had any input
