What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? texas

last summer my husband had a heart attack and our insurance paid the hospital 101,000 dollars but we still owed 4.000. I was paying them 100.00 a month and I kept getting bills from them that said that they were going to turn it into a collection agency, so I called them and they said I had to pay them 150.00 a month. They have never told me that and we never signed an agreement to that effect. I have been paying the 150. but its hard sometimes but they tell me that if I don't they will turn it over to a collection agency and they will demand payment in full. my question is can they legally do that even if I pay something on the bill every month?

Yes, they can and its perfectly legal. Letting you make payments of $150 a month on $4,000 is really a courtesy on their part, they don't have to take payments that small on a 4K bill, or take payments at all for that matter. They want to clear the balance as quickly as possible - hospitals don't operate like finance companies.
