What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TN

Hey guys, didn't know where to put this. So I bought my house before I was married and the deed is in my name and the mortgage is in my name too. I am married now (and not divorcing! haha) but haven't changed the mortgage or deed. My husband is worried about what happens if I die. I have no children and do not currently have a will. The house would still go to him as my surviving husband wouldn't it? or do i need to get the deed changed to do that?

thanks!

It would likely be best for you to have a will drawn up leaving the house to your husband, if that is who you want the house to go to. I would not recommend changing the deed or mortgage. While no one ever plans on divorcing, you never know what might happen in the future, and it would be far less complicated if the house remains solely in your name.

That would not take away any marital rights that your husband may gain in the equity of the home, it simply avoids problems/complications later on down the road.
