14 months ago I was hired as a maintenance man at an apartment complex in Yardley, Pa. Part of my compensation was a rent free apartment, as this is the only way I could take the job because this is a very upscale area and I could not otherwise afford to livehere. To make a long story short, they told me and the other maintenance man that we either have to start paying rent now or move out. They have no problem with our job performance and constantly make it clear that we are both doing a great job. The rent they want me to pay will be about 1400.00 a month, which is more than I bring home after insurance and taxes are deducted from my check. We were given a little less than 3 weeks notice. We both have familys and both are in bad need of advice. Can they legaly cut our pay in half like this? We are supposed to start paying or be out by march the first. Thank you for any help you can give us.

Did you sign any employment contracts or papers when you started the job?

And NO hey cant just do this.....you have to be paid the prevailing wages in order to pay for the apartment,So are they going to raise your pay $1400 a month too?...

Unless they expect you to live far away and commute..which seems like their plan.

Its time to talk to a labor lawyer tomorrow to get a better idea of what your rights are.
