I bought a house in 1981 and put it in my parents name for tax purposes. I resided in the house for 18 years. I always paid the mortgage to my parents with cash so I don't have any receipts. I advised my parents in October of 1999 that I was gay and they kicked me out. I didn't know of any recourse at the time and so I moved out of state. I am now going to move back to Texas to my home which they have agreed I can. What I want to know is how I can find out if the house is paid off and when it was paid off. I know this is public record but can't find anything online to find this information out. Also I want the deed changed to my name and don't know how to do this. Can you help me?

When you get back to TX, have a title or escrow (RE closing company) do a preliminaty title report and any outstanding liens should show up. With loan # you should be able to call lender and with last 4-digits of the borrowor's SS#, you should be able to access balance information through a VM system at lender. House on 30 year loan bought in 1981 would NOT be paid off yet - but close.
