I have been seeing a woman for over 6 months. She is currently married and claims to have retained a lawyer. The issue is I think this lawyer is pure fiction. I have no doubt she is in love with me and wants to be with me , however this supposed lawyer hasn't even been able to draw up anything since before November of last year. Long story short I think she is giving me the run around about the divorce although I have no idea why. My first inclination is to call the lawyer as if I wanted to retain them to sue her as they would be required to inform me they would not be able to because they are under retainer with her. I don't want to do this and she actually have them retained and it somehow get back to her. Is there any other way to find out if she indeed has retained this lawyer ?

You haven't told us where you're located, but see if the court has docket information online; those things can be quite enlightening! Heck, start Googling her name just because.

Excellent suggestion Pro. Many courts can be searched online. A lawyer is not permitted to discuss his clients even to confirm what their case is about due to confidentiality laws.

She's not as into you as you think. Besides - you shouldn't be dating a married woman. That's kind of..... tacky.

Even early on a holiday Monday morning, this one makes me do a double take! I want to wave my hand and say, "I no! I no!"

Pkay, it is no longer so early...

If you were a woman, I'd tell you that Lover is getting both two cows AND milk for free. Since you're not (I presume), Lover is getting two wallets to plunder. Seriously - if she will cheat with you, she will cheat ON you! Are you truly this stupid? It's not rocket science. Tell her that you are putting things in hold until she is actually divorced + six months.

Actually, the lawyer is prohibited (Under the Model Rules of Professional Conduct) from disclosing the fact that he or she is representing a particular person. He or she is under no obligation to tell you why he or she is declining to represent you.

Drawbar - isn't it apparent to you (as it is to all of us) that your relationship with this woman is headed downhill? You have absolutely no trust in her. Dump her and move on - really!
