I have lived in my house for 8 years... have always paid my rent, maybe not always on time but always within a day or two of due date. When we first moved in we had an agreement with the landlord to get at least half the garage, because she had an old car in the other half, we would just have to give her time to clean it out. It wasn't until 5 years later that she tells us that she is going to come over and clean out the whole garage so that we can have it, but she was raising the rent $50. Everything was real good for a while, that was until last year I was diagnosed with cancer and knew it would be hard to keep up with rent and the other necessities so I went to the landlord and told her about it and we came up with an agreement. I followed through with my agreement and did not take half as long as we thought to get caught up. Ever since then we have been having difficulties with her. We were told every other month that she was going to need the house back for one reason or another, then the next month she would tell us we didn't have to move. She wants the garage back so that she can put her old car back into it. She wants to raise the rent another $100 because she says she is not making any money off the house. When we told her that we will move because the house isn't worth another $100 a month she got upset. We told her if she fixed the only heater we have in the upstairs, find out why we have no hot water in the shower but have it everywhere else, fix some of the windows that the glass was coming out of the frame, find out why when we open our cupboard doors in the kitchen it's like walking out in the snow and get us a new mailbox that we wouldn't mind paying another $100 a month. We were told that we should sleep downstairs and then we wouldn't have to worry about the heat upstairs, basically all was our problem. She actually wanted me to go to welfare and tell them my husband moved out so that maybe they would help us with the windows and insulation. When I told her I would not do this she was upset. The month of January she came to get the rent and I was $60 short, I told her to come back 2 days later but she never called or came over. I finally called her last week to ask her to come over and get the rest of her rent and get Februarys rent also, all of Februarys rent a week early. The day after I give her the rent, the remaider of jan. and all of feb., I get a 3 day notice in the mail saying that she wants a late rent payment, removal of Unauthorized vehicle, and removal of things in the garage. Now, for the late payment in rent, I paid her for the 2 days that I was at fault for rent being late why should I pay her more for being late when it wasn't my fault she never stopped by. The unauthorized vehicle, it was my car that was totalled and it did sit in my driveway but it was covered and it WAS removed over a week ago. The removal of things in the garage, can she tell me what I can and can't have in my garage? I mean it's not like it's a lot of garbage or anything, it's old antique furniture that my husband restores he's even restored some of her pieces in that garage. She also states in the letter that this will go on my credit, is this true? We do plan on moving soon but how do we handle this 3 day notice thing, and is it a legitimate 3 day notice letter if she has only typed it out and sent it certified mail?
