What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IOWA
I invited a friend and her boyfriend to live in my house temporarily. They were living with his mother in a 1 bedroom. I had accepted a job 1/1/2 hours away. The VERBAL agreement was that they could full use of the house during the week and I would be home on the weekend, not to say that they still couldn't use the house, I would just be there too. We all agreed that they would pay $100.00/weekly plus the utilities, I would pay the remainder of the mortgage, the cable, internet and phone, water.
They have not paid anything other than the $100/wk. I have been talking to her about it for six weeks now, since she quite her job. He only makes about $6.00/hr. They told me (loudly) that they don't feel like they should pay the utilites because I am there every weekend and have all the lights on the all the TV's(you know that's not true) I'm 58 years old. I'm tired and I go to sleep early. We agreed that they cannot afford to live there and I told them that I want them out. I gave them a week, then she said that they have 30 days.I have been researching trying to find out if that is true. The Iowa Code 562A.32 says that if it is a week to week tenant then I can give them a written notice to vacate within 10 days.
I agreed later that evening (with her) to give them 30 days and I would work with them on the utility bill. I need it in writing and I need to know the correct form and process to do it.
Please HELP.
