How does one do a settlement (withou a lawyer) before any charges ae filed?

What is the name of your state? NY/NJ/FL

I am thinking about settling on a copyright violation. What clauses should i put there to protect myself and my privacy in the future? I am thinking these:

--they will maintain my privacy and not disclose the issue or the settlement to outside parties.
--they will not pursue legal action about the matter in the future.
--they will not report me to FBI, other institutions

WIll this cover this? I don't ever want the issue brought up to me again, so will this be fine? Can they mention my name if they sue another company and inform them of all the people who they have settled with?

Can I settle by myself for less than $1000 money, or should i hire someone to phrase the settlement words correctly?

Can I or should i try to negotiate cost of a settlement? If yes, how and what words so that they'd agree to lower it?

On another issue--i have to disclose some people's names who i bought product from. I feel bad--they'll be contacted for settlement, too. What are your thoughts on that?

Thanks in advance!

The concepts are correct, but you might want to get someone (or a book) to help you draft a contract that would be more likely to be upheld in court if it ever came to that.

If you include something in the contract that says they can't, then they can't without breaching the contract.

If they are willing to.

You should have someone help you draft the agreement. Plus, if they have an attorney, they may want you to sign THEIR agreement, and it might be helpful to have someone make sure you are not signing something that it a bad deal for you.

Of course you can try -- whether they will or not, no way to tell.

You gotta look out for yourself.
