Hubby is self-employed - PA
First, we've only been married 4 months and hubby has been self-employed for almost 20 years, him being a sole proprietor so no, I'm not part of his business, although I have made his most recent business cards/magnets etc. We are both close to 50.
As for G'ma's house reply...we're in big doo-doo then. I have NEVER been late on a single payment, am debt free (incl. my house/car) but only make about 40k. Hubby has been late for years on everything (incl. a recent foreclosure mortgage which I didn't know about until 2 weeks ago and 'caught him up' on that and truck payment), has a 4k+ court judgement on him and a $760 lien on his house from a creditor. His score is 467! I didn't even know it could go that low. No, I was not aware of his financial situation until after the wedding which is a different story. We have to sell his house before looking for another, but when I found out his credit score, I panic'd a bit.
I know this sounds cold, but I hope this one piece of advice saves others from what I'm experiencing. GET A CREDIT REPORT ON BOTH parties before getting married - no surprises.
