How long judgements

1987 I was in car accident, I was sued,judgement was awarded to allstate Ins. I couldn't pay,I had a judgement collection law firm always calling me. They finally had my drivers license suspended for 3yrs. I also got a ticket for the wreck was fined $650. and spent a night in jail.Then I didn't hear from them in over seven years.Until today telling me about the judgement, and they are prepared to take me back to court for $22,000. they are giving 10 days,from date on letter I have 5 left. How long does a judgement hang over you. Can they do this I thought I waited the statue of limit. out, or can I do anything at all Rude in santa cruz cal
