What is the name of your state? CA

My husband's stepmother passed away in 12/05. My husband, his brother, and their 2 step sisters were the beneficiaries of the estate, one of the step sisters was the executor and she began the probate process with a lawyer. The last information we received from thecourt was that the house (the only substantial asset) was sold on 10/06.

We have contacted the county court to find out the status and got nowhere (we are out of state in PA). We have also contacted the lawyer handling the estate in writing and by phone and got no response. How do we find out what's going on? Is there a time limit to get this settled?

Contact the county courthouse and order copies of all documents in the probate file to get an overview of how the estate was handled and then consult a probate attorney in the same county that the estate was probated in to find out how to proceed in claiming your share of this money.

I agree with Dandy Don. Also, look at Probate Code Section 12200 et. seq. to see what the attorney can do for you, if his or her similar requests for information fail.
