I'm in West Palm Beach and someone just rear ended me. No injuries, no structural damages, purely cosmetic. My car is not worth anything, less than $1000 on Kelley Blue Book, so I'm not gonna fix it. I'm not claiming any injuries either, my conscience won't let me. But I don't want their insurance to lowball me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm sorry, but I don't think we have any auto body specialists here, nor is this an auto body forum. The maximum you can get would be the value of your car.

I'm not getting it fixed, I'm just curious what games the insurance company will try to play with me. Thanks for the reply.

For a $1,000 car...I doubt they will play any games. They're just going to offer what they estimate it will cost to fix, up to the maximum (which is the value of the car just prior to the accident). for a <$1,000 car it's simply not worth it for them to play any games.

Get a couple estimates for cost to repair it. Understand that if the bumper already had damage or poor paint, the other party is not required to make you better off than you were so that could reduce the true damages from whatever repair cost you’re quoted

If your car has a steel bumper with a plastic cover painted the color of the car and all you have is some scuff marks on the plastic you are looking at about $200 (give or take) to have it sanded and repainted.

How do I know? Well, my friend scuffed up his painted plastic bumper and got it repainted for $200.

So that's all you'd get from the other driver's insurance company. Nobody will care that you pocket the money.

he did state the bumper is cracked per the title. That likely requires replacing the plastic cover

It's more than just scuffed up plastic. The metal structure seems fine but a foot of the plastic cover on the right side is completely smashed "cracked in big chunks" and pushed in. You can easily slide your hand inside the pumper.

$200 for just a scuff so I should get more than that. That's a good gauge of the lower end, that's very useful. Thanks!

You can research body parts on google. Add that cost to the paint and add maybe $100 for labor to r and r the cover and that should get you a rough number
