to whom it may concern.
my name is thierno barry and I from west africa, but living in memphis, tennessee about 3 years now.
I hired an immigration lawyer to help me bring my wife and daughter in the u.s.a. I had 2 years deadline to file the application, but I went see him 14 months before the deadline and gave him all the papers work and $2500 for the fee. My attorney missed the deadline and my application was denied for missining the deadline, my family are living in the civil war country (guinea in west africa) for my lawyer mishandling.
Now I want to file a lawsuit again his firm,I already file a complaint againt the firm to the tennessee board.
My question is for how much should I suit this attorney.
Please advice me and name some lawyers to help me.
Sincerely,

Just because you are here, you don't automatically qualify for bringing family over. There are a lot of issues that would need to be considered before any action could be taken. For example:
1) What papers are you here under?? What type visa??
2) Are in in full compliance with your status here, or are you in violation (ex: student visa, no longer attending, etc.)?
3) What visa or immigration provision were you trying to bring relatives in under??? (If you are from Equat. Guinea, that it NOT a civil war country).
4) What is your sponsorship provision (ie: could you assure provision if they were allowed here, etc.)?

As you can see, there is much more to immigration than just, "I am here, so can everyone else!".

reply to west african immigrant

It seems to me the staff replies to this man were unkind and not to the point. "Suit him in Armani"? How fluent are you in African languages?

He was not asking whether his family was eligible because he was living here....he stated his application for their immigration was denied review because his attorney missed the filing deadline...even though he, the client, had provided necessary information in a timely fashion and had paid a retainer.

I'm sorry you didn't take him seriously. I think he has a serious problem.

In order to understand the damage, we have to understand the problem. It is not enough to simply hear that a deadline was missed. Steve's response was spot on for finding out more information so as to understand the problem.
