18 AND when the adult no longer lives under mom and dad's roof.

And of course, at the same time, a parent has no further obligation to provide a single dime to the 18 year old's support and there's nothing the 18 year old can do about that, either.

BTW, this answer applies in every state except Nebraska, where the answer is 19.
