What is the name of your state? NC

hi,
my gf and i bought a house almost two yrs ago. both our names are on the deed and the mortgage statements. we each pay half the mortgage each month. last yr, she filed her income taxes and used the interest that we paid on the mortgage on her income tax return. (we file seperate income tax returns) she received a fairly large refund, somewhat due to the interest for the house payments. this yr she plans to do it again. is this the way we should be handling this? i paid half that interest! cant we file jointly somehow? is it even correct for just her to use the interest from the house on her return, since my name is on the deed also? something doesnt seem right. shouldnt we have a cpa look at our situation?...bob

You should be splitting the interest between both of you since you each pay half.
