What is the name of your state? IOWA this past spring my townhouse was broken into while i was out of town for the evening. it is my first ever claim on homeowners/renters insuance. (i have owned 2 houses and am renting now). 3 weeks after i turned in the police report, a detective came (finally) for what i thought was the investigation (?). his first statement to me was that he was here because he had heard i got my things back! he spent 2 hours at my house, went through every room, looked in drawers, closets, spent time in the basement and garage. he wrote down serial #s on items that were not taken (and had not been llisted on the police or insurance report), asked me to fill out a voluntary sworn statement and come down to the station to talk about it. he also told me that he thought that i was involved, and seemed to be trying to convince me to confess. i guess it was not a "typical" burglery. i was also told that none of my neighbors had seen anything. (there's really only 1 that could have, besides my next door neighbor in the adjoining townhouse)
2 months later the one neighbor that could have seen anything told me nobody had asked him
the week following my house being broken into, an apartment house over and up one lot from me got broken into. also, my next door neighbor, who has lived here 20 years, was the person who figured out how they got in. seems about 10 years ago or so somebody broke into his front windows the same way. (the cop who came that night handed me a piece of paper to fill out and left)
an insurance investigator has been here to do a taped inverview. (my 2nd) he also told me that he thought i was involved. i have given the ins co my cell phone records for that evening, which actually show when i left the "local" calling area for the "extended" calling area. it clearly shows that i wasn't home until about 10-15 minutes before i called the police. i also have 2 receipts from a store that night, about 1 1/2 hr before i was home. (there were alot of calls--about 40 from 430p to 130a)
now i have another taped interview with ins co, asking for all sorts of records that i dont have anymore. AND i never did get back with police det., who showed up last week, now wanting me to come down to the station to talk with him. (i honestly did forget about the stmt he wanted)
i had let a female acquantance and then her boyfriend temporarily stay with me to 'help" them get on their feet. instead they nestled in. they left very shortly before this happened, and not happily. when i told them someone had broken in, his comment to me was "make sure they know i was there, because my prints are on file" ??? hmm? turns out it was for--robbery when he was a kid. i am wondering if the "tip" the police got came from them. i also wonder if it was them who did it.
so, i have no criminal record. i have been staying at home with my almost 2 yr old this last year. no, we dont have much money but the bills are paid. i have an insurance license, and am returning to college this fall, to finish my bachelors so i can go to law school. (go drake!) the attitude of the insurance investigator when he was here seemed to be because of my limited income, must be guilty. BUT--they will never find any proof of anything, because i had nothing to do with this! i am concerned that they'll --not make up proof, but, --well, if somebody said something to who knows who--gosh, must be true. there must be some reason they are pursuing this, but i am unaware of what it is. and if somebody said something, wouldn't they need proof? i would think so, and so then there isn't any!
i'm wondering what a 3rd interview with the ins co will entail. what about the records that i do not have anymore that they want? also, what is the procedure with the police? ive watched csi--i know he'll want to trip me up! do i have to go see him? nothing has changed--and he has my inital statement.
oy, my head!
thanks
