how to make basic purchase of $900.00 plot of land

My father has a neighbor who is selling their home and there is a plot of less than a half acre of land and it is on my dad's side of a driveway they share. They have agreed to sell this to him for $900.00. He is on a fixed income of less than $1000.00/month. He wants this because he feels it will add a great deal of value to his home. They have also agreed to write up a legal way for him to have a right to use the driveway as he always has. My question: Is there a cheap way to have a survey done and what other legal papers are needed to make legal? Thanks for your input. If I can make this happen for him he will love it! You do not want to hear this as it will cost a little money but go to a realestate Atty and make sure it is done right or it will come back to bite both of them.

Perhaps there is a legal aide office near that will help for free or a reduced cost.
