OUR FAMILY HAS BECOME VERY GOOD FRIENDS WITH THIS 17 YR OLD YOUNG MAN. HIS PARENTS ARE DIVORCED. HIS MOTHER HAS BEEN REMARRIED MANY TIMES AND HE HAD BEEN LIVING WITH HIS FATHER BECAUSE THE MOST RECENT STEP FATHER BEAT HIM UP ALL THE TIME. WELL, HIS FATHER TOLD HIM TO MOVE HOME WITH HIS MOTHER BECAUSE HE DOES NOT WANT HIM AND HIS MOTHER TOLD HIM LAST WEEK TO MOVE OUT. HE FAILED ENGLISH THIS PAST YEAR IN SCHOOL. WE HAVE HIM ENROLLED IN SUMMER SCHOOL AT THIS TIME. HIS PARENTS ARE BOTH VERY WELL OFF. MY FAMILY ON THE OTHER HAND IS NOT. MY HUSBAND IS AT THIS TIME IN SCHOOL RETRAINING DUE TO A WORK INJURY. I AM THE SOLE PROVIDER OF THE FAMILY. IS IT POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP OF THIS MINOR AND HIS PARENTS PAY US CHILD SUPPORT? IT IS NOT ABOUT THE $$$ REALLY. THEY HAVE IT AND WE ARE STRUGGLING AND CARING FOR THEIR SON THAT STATES THAT HE IS GOING BEFORE A JUDGE AND BE DECLARED AN EMANCIPATED MINOR AND MOVE IN WITH FRIENDS. WE DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS IS THE THING FOR HIM TO DO. WE DO CARE ABOUT HIM VERY MUCH. HE ATTENDS CHURCH WITH US AND HAS BECOME PART OF THE FAMILY. WE NEED YOUR ADVICE. THANK YOU.

"Part of the family" or not, you aren't part of this equation. If the boy has be mistreated be his parents, you need to call Child Protective Services and report it. You DON'T need this boy living in your home. It could cause very serious consequences for you and your family.

send him home

theres one thing that bothers me-how can you enroll him in summer school when you dont have legal custody or guardianship? you really need to leave this boy alone, and stop trying to encourage him to live with you, before you get into serious trouble with the law. you have no legal standing to get guardianship OR custody of this boy, so you might as well forget it. when hes 18, he can live with you if he wants, untill then, all three of you are out of luck.
