Florida. A judgment was entered against me for a credit card debt. I'm judgment proof as am disabled and have only widow's benefits to live on. The judgment was for $6000, double what I owed! Rotten deal, mean judge. Now I want to pay off this debt in cash, as have found a way I could borrow maybe $1500 or $2000. Can I do this, and how would I start? Thank you in advance for any advice.

When was the judgment entered? has there been any attempt by the judgment holder to try and collect on the judgment?

want to pay off

Florida: Thanks for answering my request StephenK. The judgment was made in Aug 2003. I received a letter from the attorney the week after that and asked how much a month I could pay. I replied that it would be only $25 per month, and attorney agreed not initiate any collection efforts as long as I sent the $25 monthly. So, that's what I've been doing.

you can negotiate a compromised settlement of the judgment. Be sure you are clear that the money you are offering is for a complete satisfaction of judgment and is not just a payment toward the owed balance.

Confirm all discussions in writing.

And make sure that the judgment creditor files a signed 'Satisfaction of Judgment' with the court upon payment, with a copy to you.
