What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

I currently have a roommate who pays his part of the rent and bills late. The end of the current lease, which he is on with me as a secondary resident is in about 30 days. I have resigned the new lease without him and submitted it to the building management company, I have expressed to him that I no longer want to be roommates. He replied to me that 30 days notice was not enough time for him to find a new place. What is my next step? How do I get him out of the apartment since he will no longer be on the lease?

If he was on the original lease than the landlord will have to evict him. It's not up to you, his agreement was with the landlord.

and if in fact he is not included on the new lease , you have to

1. notify him in writing
2. give him 30 days to move and
3. you have to serve him the vacate letter before the rent is due for the 30 notice period.

then you have to take him to court if he doesnt move out per the notice
then the judge has to agree he should move
then the judge orders a eviction warrant
then several weeks later the sheriff come to help him remove himself.
