Hi, I found out a month ago that I was being sued for a debt I owe through ads for legal services. I had not yet been served, so I did some digging to verify that it is a legitimate lawsuit (it is). I immediately called the law firm handling the law suit and they offered me a settlement. I thoroughly reviewed the settlement offer and decided it was in my best interest to pay the settlement in full.

I was served on 11/09, I faxed the signed offer to the law firm on 11/10, and the settlement payment cleared on the 11/13. Once the payment cleared the law firm said they would begin the process to dismiss the case (not sure if that is the correct term).

It is my understanding that I still need to file a response to the lawsuit. I have my response in the correct format, but I am struggling with what to say. Everything regarding responses to debt lawsuit have advised the defendant to deny all charges or something similar in the response. That’s obviously not applicable in my case.

Would a simple response asking the court to dismiss this case as I have settled the debt suffice? I would appreciate any advice y’all have, I would like to try to file my response tomorrow 11/21.

Thanks!

Have you been sent a copy of the filed dismissal paperwork?
