if a building contractor provides a quote, but doesn't state that HST taxes are extra, would the client still be liable to pay the taxes in Ontario, Canada?
I am Canadian and very familiar with HST. Anybody selling a product or service that isn't exempt from HST must separate HST from the quoted price. So legally, your contractor cannot include HST in the quote. Which means that yes, you are required to pay HST in addition to whatever the contractor has quoted.
