What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Florida

My soon to be ex husband is a broker at a large firm. We have a joint money market for a savings that was our nest egg, not to be spent from. I gave him full responsibility for this account (stupid me). Anytime I asked for a statement or a "ballpark" balance, he eluded and never followed through. Now the account is frozen and drained down to a few thousand dollars. There was WELL over that before the separation. I got my hands on the statements and noticed several checks that were generated by the firm (not from the checkbook) made out to both of us. He forged my name on several checks and cashed them. Some, but not all, were deposited into our joint checking at another institution to cover bills now and then. A significant amount of $ was cashed against that account using the checks that he forged my name on. This went on for about 3-4 years without my knowledge.

My question is, us being husband and wife, is he liable as a broker for forging my name and cashing the checks? I can understand forging my name and depositing the $ into another joint account, but cashing them and taking the money??? Is his license at risk, would he lose his job and what are the other consequences he may face?

I was advised to call his firm and report it so they can investigate exactly how the checks were cashed, by whom and what the consequences are. I have copies (front and back of ALL the checks).

He's not paying me child support at this time so if he gets fired, it's not really a loss to me. He already stole my money. Yes, my money. I have always been the breadwinner and contributed 90% of my earnings to that account.

Thanks in advance!
