i am being sued by ex because finance co chose to dismiss me from debt

this is in florida. i am being sued by my ex in florida because gold coast lease sued us jointly in florida and since i was now a resident of illinois they could not sue me in florida court and they released me from the suit because i was not served . my question is can my ex sue me for damages because the lease company entered a judgement against her. i now reside in illinois and she is sueing me in florida even though i had no knowledge of what the lease company did. the lease company knew where i lived because my ex gave them my address. i just want to know if florida county courts have any jurisdiction over me since when the case was brought against her i was already a resident of illinois.thank you

In the short term, you are correct that the Florida court (and subsequent judgment) cannot be enforced against you in another state (Illinois).

However, in the long term, the Florida judgment CAN be 'domesticated' into Illinois and the Illinois courts will issue a judgment that can be enforced in Illinois.

So, just because you are 'out of Florida' doesn't mean you are 'out of trouble'.
