What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? NJ

I just recieved a summons for Money I owe. It was a credit card that was charged off and bought by Asset Acceptance. I was trying to make payments but I fell behind. The balance is $2017.14 plus interest. Should I try to resolve the dispute or go to court? I am not going to be able to pay them any type of lump sum right now.

How old is this debt and when did you last pay the ORIGINAL creditor ??

Go to court. There is no way you should just let ASSet run roughshod over you by not going or not answering the lawsuit. You would likely be given the chance to negoitate a settlement before you go before the judge anyway. Just don't let them have an easy win !

I have been paying asset acceptance on and off for a year the last payment I made to them was sept. 16, 2004. The date of the charge off was 07/31/01. Should i try to resolve it with their lawyers first?

ASSet is not the original creditor -- but since you've been paying and its only been since 2001 it was charged-off, the SOL doesn't apply anyway.

You can still try to negotiate with their lawyers.
