What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FLA

I was UA for 3 months from Camp Pendleton and popped positive for THC (intentionally) upon my return. I was subsequently seperated 6 months later with a general under other than honorable conditions discharge from the 1st Marine Logistics Group, CLR 17. No brig time, NJP and then an admin sep. Wasn't the end of the world, I have had NO PROBLEMS finding employment or with background checks. Don't let some of the sea lawyers on this site scare you with their nonsense. I have gone through it, and I am here to help if you are looking for it. Send me a pm. I wish I could have talked to someone with first hand knowledge when I went through it, so hopefully I can help ya'll rest a little easier at night.

One thing to keep in mind is that the usmc does business case by case, my experience will not necc. be the same as yours. But I can provide specific guidance based off what I went through. But please do not mistake me for offering any air tight legal advice. Obviously, you should talk to a qualified professional for that.

But I do know a TON about the process.

Take care.

Any discharge less than a honorable will preclude you from government work.
UA and deserter ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. UA is no big deal ! Shame on you, npds for a month or two and a general discharge.
Deserter and missing a movement gets nasty. You had to intentionally avoid deployment.
General in lieu of court martial is the same as general.

Well stated. The OP fails to mention all the federal benefits he no longer has access to as well. Want to buy a house? How about buying one with no money down? I think this new market crash is going to make that next to impossible to do from this point on. Want to work for a company that has a government contract? You are not likely to get a job with any company that has a defense contract at all. Want to go to school and not work full time? That's not going to happen, you already lost your G.I. Bill. The award now is around 1300 a month or 1400 with the kicker, this amount is going to become much more next year with the proposed improvements on the floor in Congress presently. Did you deploy to OEF or OIF? If you had not gotten discharged you would be eligible for FIVE years of FREE health care. That means no copay and no monthly fee. Does your job presently offer any of these benefits you have so flippantly tossed aside as unimportant?

I am sure you have no problems finding employment. We are talking about worth while jobs and careers not dead end jobs like the one you are most likely working now. Please keep your opinions and undeserved sense of self worth to yourself from now on.

Peligroso, to bad you're wrong. I just don't think you get it. I'm sure it bothers you to know that someone who was a deserter and has a BCD and spent time in military prison is working for the Federal Government and gets medical benefits. It is also possible to go to school full time. :p

It's ok though Pelig, you keep on telling people they have limited options. Can't do this Can't do that, good luck doing this. Blah bah blah. There are more options out there than you know.

Oh, by the way, please keep your opinions and undeserved sense of self worth to yourself from now on. :)

Dude.
