I changed my credit card numbers and now they put "fraud alert" on my credit report

I live in Michigan.

I recently, just out of caution, changed my credit card numbers. I use them a lot and just in case anyone has recorded my number over the years I felt more comfortable by having the numbers changed.

However, upon doing this. The bank sent the changes to the credit bereu as "fraud alert."

I asked them why they did this and they said that it's how they always have to report changing of numbers. There is no fraud at all though... I simply did it because I take EXTRA percaution NOT to have fraud take place.

Is there any way I can get this "fraud alert" stuff removed from my credit report because I already had one company almost deny me on something when they saw "fraud alert". They had to ask me for extra verification on things.

Asking you for extra verification is the purpose of doing this. It is a safeguard to extra insure it is you. I think it is pretty standard. By having it on your report it just lets future creditors know that others may have your information and they should take extra care.

Yeah, one of my banks had one of their PC's stolen and they put fraud alerts on their customers.

But I didn't have any problems a few months down the line when I wanted another checking account.

Like he said above, it just makes them want more verifcation. Which is a good thing in this day and age!
