What is the name of your state? IN

I need to find out how to get the $400 in money owed to me for the additional child credit given. I know this can be done in writing, but are there any IRS phone numbers that have a REAL person answering questions?

Thanks.

Whether you got the $400 *advance on your 2003 tax refund* depended on how you filed in 2002. If you didn't get the $400 yet, you'll be able to claim $1,000 for your child tax credit in the spring, rather than $600. And no, you can't talk to a real person at the IRS without going through 30 minutes of electronic receptionist. However, there is a link at irs.gov that lets you check on the $400.

Thanks. I know I get the credit. I had an error in my original filing (used my 2-17 year old boys by mistake) and it was corrected. I also have a 15 yo daughter that they disallowed (is that a word?) on the original filing. I just need to talk to a REAL person at the IRS and you can't do that right now.

It sounds like you need to talk to a tax preparer. You might also make an appointment with the nearest IRS office to speak to someone there.

I don't know if you want to talk to the IRS or a tax preparer as abezon suggested...but you can talk to a live person at the IRS....I did it just this morning.
When you call and they ask for your social security number, don't make an entry, they'll ask a couple of times, but eventually you'll get to a live person. The live person may not be able to help you, or if you talk to a live person today and ask another live person the same question tomorrow you'll probably get a different answer each time...but you can talk to a person eventually.

What number did you call to talk to the IRS. I tried 1-80-829-1040 and all I get is the automated line and I can't get past it.
