We have been paying for our house since 1998. In October 2004 we received the deed--registered with our county; book #, page #, etc. Along with that we received a letter from the mortgage company stating that the terms of the loan had been satisfied. According to a lawyer we use locally, it appears that we own our home. It seems that when we started re-fi paperwork last May, the mortgage company jumped the gun and paid off our loan and sent us our deed. We didn't do the re-fi after all, too many undisclosed fees until the very end. My question is where are the mortgage payments going (they are auto-draft from our bank), and do we legally own our home. The mortgage company has been contacted by us and the lawyer and we can't get a response besides "the computer is showing that the loan is paid in full". Any advice would be extremely appreciated since the house is on the market and is under contract. Do we get to keep the full selling amount??? That would be nice!
