i am in virginia
in march 2001, my boss handed me two bad paychecks (returned to me by my bank for nsf). i say handed because he did not actually sign the checks, our "parent company" (out of state) cuts the checks and my bosses boss actually signs them. i filed a warrant of debt against my boss, a registered agent of the company in my state and won. i understand that in order for me to collect my money, $1892.00 i can summons him to court (interrogatory summons) just to obtain his SSN ( i know where he works and banks)
q: is there another way to obtain this info besides spending another half day in court, i.e. can the police or someone else help me with this?

q: am i suing the right person?, should i be suing who signed my checks, the company, or my boss? i would hate to go futher and then find out i am doing this wrong!

q: should i persue garnishment or actual levy or docketing of judgment? which has more success in receiving payment ?

please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you could have sued the parent company and it would have been the better route.

Unfortunately, now you must collect against this guy.

Have you tried talking to the guy that you have the judgement against? Does he simply refuse to pay? If not then I would try to work out some sort of arrangement with him.
If a court orders garnishment, you won't get it all at one time anyway, but so much each week/pay period/some regular interval.
If you go for the lien, you won't get anything until the liened property is sold.

It be much easier if you could work with the guy and work out some payments. I should think that would appeal to him as well, as he knows you have a judgement against him, no question he has to pay this, as well as knowing that the court can force him to pony up, which won't be as easy on him as making a deal with you.

Good luck,

getting ss#

Don't forget about the information subpoena. Most often an employer or a bank can be forced to share any information they have on this person. If they refuse to then they just may become the debtor for the entire amount. Check it out.
