Alabama - We have a rat(s) !!! After over 3 years of living in rental we are now subletters to a rat(s). The lease reads, " You specifically give us the right, without obligation, to perform pest control functions on the propertyand the structure at any time, without notice. interior pest control is your responsibility." The landlord made a joke when I told him we had a rat. He wants his rent on time but our budget doesn't allow for these unseen circumstances. What can I do?

First, check Alabama law. See if landlord is responsible for interior pests, despite what it says in the lease.

Second, see what you can do by yourself without expensive treatment.

I had a rat living in the attic space above my garage a couple of years ago. I bought 4 traps and my son baited them with gummi bears and set them out in the garage, and e-mailed me at my office the next morning that we got him.

In the end, you may want to move.
