I'm not exactly sure of the law in your state but think about it this way: Your c/s case is closed (child is over 18) and they will probably not want to mess with you (you never did anything about it before now). You'd pay at least $2k to retain a lawyer. You are only owed $2500. Its not that much money, I'd move on.

Still - I am owed this money

Regardless MrsK... technically - I am owed back child support. I do not need an attorney, I do things pro-per.

Any one with knowledge of CA law have an answer to this?

Hm. I would bet without an atty, you are even more unlikely to get somewhere in collecting that money.

Maybe someone who knows exactly what you can and cant do will be able to help you & you can get somewhere...

But I would be prepared to face the fact that since you waited so long, the courts will do nothing.

Good luck.

 In California the term, Pro Per is used. OP can go to their county's Superior Court site pull up the forms and ask assistance in filing the proper motion or go to DCSS to file to collect the arrearages.

i would not answer any of this person's post.....she is conniving and manipulative and does not deserve any help.....check out her post in the custody and visitation post.....trust me, she is a waste of time....

While that may be true, that does not mean that the legal question or remedy should not be accurtely addressed. We have too many people who give incorrect advice without any foundation of law or reference to statutes. When the public does a search for a question, they may only see this response.
