I married a man while visiting Las Vegas on an impluse. I haven't seen him since our brief honeymoon 2 1/2 years ago. I would like to file divorce papers myself but am unsure how to start. I notice several books pertaining to the subject and was thinking about purchasing one. They ask what state? Do they mean the state I'm living in? Or the one I got married in? We have no children together, or assets, and this will be an uncontested divorce. How simple will it actually be? It was very simple to do!

It is always easier to get married then to get divorced! I suggest you see a lawyer. I would think you can actually file your papers in WA and have him served at his Nev. residence.

Then at that point, if it is uncontested, he should just send the papers back signed to you and then they should be filed and court approriapriately.

If you do it yourself, it really is easy. (I did it for my mother in Wa.)

Here is what you do:

Go to local court house and purchase neccessary dissolution of marriage documents (the clerk should be able to help)

Then fill it out completely, get copies (for him) go back to court house, file with court clerk, get docket #, same w/ copies. Then ask how to serve, you may be able to send it to the sherrifs office of his location for service or hire your own process server.

Then have it served on him.

He should sign doc's neccessary for you to complete divorce and send them back.

Then all you do is get a final hearing at court to finalize the Divorce.

You may want to check w/ clerk about the procedures, its been a while since I did this.
