I made a false hit and run report!

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? I live in Australia.

I was recently hit by a car coming on to my lane. Pulled over, with the person who hit me, to inspect although there was no major damage, only a few scrapes on my wheel.

Didn't exchange names or numbers because I didn't notice the damage on my wheel until I had further inspected.

Driver who hit me drove off and I noted their number plate.

Went into police station and filed a hit and run report. Should I write a statement saying that I had lied?
