What is the name of your state?co
I am trying to advise a 16 yr old that doesn't have much trust in anyone and she had confided in me to try to help her get some answers. He biological father was awarded custody after a nasty battle when she was young, he has since passed away, she ended up with her biological mother, not by her choice, and the mother is over board in some kind of religion and thinks she can raise the dead and all sorts of crazy stuff in the mean time they are trying to force there beliefs on this girl and they keep her locked up at home they will not even allow her to attend school but she is allowed to work, that is her only source of outside world and sanity from them, I do believe that the mother went to get her just to collect the SS death benefits from the EX. This girl is beautiful and so much to offer but instead is rebeling against all of this. They had her locked up in some kind of facility in Mo.for 6 months. The mother keeps threatening to send her back, for no reason. She says she will never go back and if they try to take her it will all be over with..

I am scared if someone doesn't help help it will be to late.

How old does she have to be to be emancipated? Can I get a list of Shelters she could go to? Are shelters Confidential? Should the mother be drawing SS death benefits even though she doesn't attend school? At what age can she leave home and not be worried about them coming after here. She will be 17yrs in 4 or 5 months.. Please Respond.....

She is not allowed to have a phone or use one so that is why I need a quick response so when she gets a chance to call maybe I can steer her in theright direction..

Have her get a full-time job and support herself 100%. That will prove that she can be emancipated.

I think I know where she was sent in Missouri....they make you behave there. It was in all the papers.

She does have a full time job, since they wont allow her to go to school. I she was in school full time she and could get he SSI benefits she could support herself. I do not condone misbehaving, but I know the family will enogh to know it is not healthy. She diffinetly needs stucture, but it needs to be positive. The mother has told everyone that the father molested the daughter and the daughter said it has never happened, she has destroyed all the pictures she had of her father that is deceased, she calls her akinds of degrading names, if she doesn't tell her mother she loves her she gets grounded. The mother thinks that she is the next God and practices physcotic religion dressing in costumes and thinking she can raise the dead, come on its not all the Child. I have three grown children my self

SS benefits

If this girl is 16 years old and is not in school, the parent cannot collect SS benefits. If the parents are denying her right to go to school by forcing her to go to work, they can be held legally liable for delinquency. If I were her, I would get hold of the Juvenile Public Defender's office to see if they can help her.

Alright, experts... am I off base here??

Maybe call slocial services, see what they can do. If they find the child is living in a bad environment, they might be able to take her from the home and place her in foster care or something like that.

Yep. CO's compulsory attendance statute is only up to 16. She's not required to be in school.
